Older News: (2007)

The WNFR has come and gone and the champions crowned, With Christmas just around the corner the Gooding Pro Rodeo would like to wish all the best this holiday season and for the coming year.

At Gooding the rodeo season never really ends and plans are being made for the coming year even before the last bull is bucked. The new chutes are in place, the added money increased and the stock and personnel hired for 2008.

25 contestants and 15 animals made Gooding a stop on their way to the 49th WNFR, not to bad for a little rodeo out in the middle of Idaho. With the added money increased to $4000.00 per event, The Heartland Series and the “ Fun Factor” for the contestants in place 08 should be as good if not better than ever.

2nd Annual Buster’s Shoot-out

Buster's Shoot Out

During the 84th Gooding Pro Rodeo, Cowboys will want to throw their golf clubs into their rigging bag. The Prescott family will once again host a memorial golf tournament in honor of their son, Buster who was killed in the fall of 2006. Last year’s shoot-out was a huge success with over 30 teams competing in some of the ugliest golf ever played. The event will take place Saturday, August, 16 with the first flight starting at 8:00 a.m. and the second flight to follow at the Gooding Golf Course.

Walt Parke Memorial Bronze

In addition to the trophy buckle given to the all around cowboy by the Stampede Burger the top money winning cowboy will have his name added to the base of the Walt Parke Bronze. Once it is won by someone three times, he will be awarded the sculpture.

Walt Parke Memorial BronzeWalt a lifetime Gooding resident and PRCA calf roper was also quite adept at riding broncs, bulls and teamroping. Walter won several Wilderness Circuit Calf Roping Championships and in later years with his love of the sport of rodeo helped more kids than can be named though roping lessons, loaning a horse and encouragement. The Parke place was always the place to be for any rodeo kid that came along.

Record Crowds for the 07 Rodeo

The 2007 Gooding Pro Rodeo was enjoyed by 86% more people than it did in 2005 and also had an increase in contestants, with 292 entering the rodeo. Rodeo contestants were treated each night to home cooked meals by the Gooding Basque Association, J3T Cattle, The Stampede Burger and the Shufly Arena. After the rodeo The band Octane played for record crowds of contestants and fans each night at Chute 7. The Gooding Elks who man the Beer Garden at Chute 7 saw a tremendous increase in sales with much the proceeds going back into the local communities for several youth programs.

New Look For 2008

In addition to more added money in 08 The Gooding Pro Rodeo is going through other changes with the addition of new Priefert Bucking Chutes, 3 left, 3 right, and a center delivery. This addition will make a well needed improvement to the Andy James Arena.
